JFK airport EAD stamp still useful?

I have heard that the temp EAD stamp that JFK airport sometimes gives out on K-1 Visa is now useless anyway. Is this true? In the sense that even if you get that EAD stamp, you cannot work for 90 days as soon as you arrive in the US?
