3.5 sears and roebuck gamefisher needs carb work?

i have a 3.5 game-fisher sears and roebuck outboard motor and when i crank her up it works fine but when i shift the motor to fast setting the diaphragm spits out fuel through a small pinhole i was told that the the float may have gone bad in the carb but i figured i would ask some tips first
